A college-level course will be offered at the State University of New York at Albany on Teaching and Learning a Holocaust. Participants will study the racial state of the Nazis and its implications for our lives and for the future. This course will provide the classroom teacher (suitable for all grades - elementary to high school, especially Social Studies and Language Arts) with a strong insight into the events of the Holocaust and anti-prejudice education. Instruction will familiarize teachers with the latest materials and source available for classroom use, as well as methodology necessary to develop new teaching strategies utilizing local and national resources. Participants will incorporate Holocaust education into the requirements of the New York State Education Law requiring "instruction in human rights issues, particularly the inhumanity of genocide, slavery and the Holocaust". Specialized materials, film resources, curriculum guides, and instruction on the use of primary Internet sources will be available. Visiting experts will include scholars, authors, and Holocaust survivors and witnesses. A field trip will be part of the course to the Museum of Jewish Heritage: A living Memorial to the Holocaust and Ellis Island. Contact us for more information and how to register. |
