Albany, NY A special showing of the film Defiance will be held on Sunday February
1st at 12:15 pm at the Colonie Center Regal Theater.
Featured will be Professor Stephen Berk, Henry and Sally Schaffer Professor of Holocaust and Jewish Studies at
Union college, and Holocaust survivor, Murray Jaros, who was hidden as a child with a partisan group.
Tickets may be purchased at the Regal theater box office on the second floor of Colonie Center.
Educational materials on the Bielski resistance will be available.
Defiance depicts the true story of the group of three brothers led by Tuvia Bielski ( played by Daniel Craig in Defiance)
who ,after his family had been murdered by the Nazis, sent a message to the Jews in the Nowogrodek Ghetto
to organize their families and friends and go to the woods. Over the next two years Tuvia Bielski's group
of partisans grew to over 1,000 including men women children young and old. The partisan group grew to the
largest resistance and rescue of Jews in the Holocaust and saved 1,200 people from certain death.
